 | Objective: The Pre-Kindergarten program is very similar to that proposed by the Ministère de la Famille et de l’Enfance. It provides children with a smooth transition between their home environment and the school milieu, helps them develop social; skills and introduces them to the experience of learning in French and English. Kinderville offers a warm, creative, and nurturing environment, which enables children to grow and develop as unique and healthy individuals. Our focus is on the development and enrichment of the whole child, which involves meeting the developmental needs of every child as he or she grows socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. Children learn to respect and appreciate themselves as well as others and the world around them. We believe unstructured play helps the early childhood environment develop every child’s confidence and self-worth. We encourage parent involvement. Families receive a copy of our weekly lesson plans and newsletters to encourage communication between home and school. We also offer workshops from time to time for parents to learn the various aspects of child development. The low child-adult ratio in classrooms allows for plenty of one-to-one interaction between child and teacher. Teachers are all certified with a Bachelor of Education or a Diploma in Early Childhood Education. These two factors help maintain high standards of quality at Kinderville. The physical environment includes well-maintained classrooms with an abundance of high quality learning materials available to each child. Each classroom contains a full kitchen, book area, house dramatic play area, art area, math and science area, block area and an area for a variety of games, puzzles, and manipulative materials. Each program enjoys the use of a well-stocked large gymnasium filled with equipment from basketball to tumbling mats. Here children learn creative movement through music, coordination and sportsmanship while developing their large motor skills and having lots of fun! The playground includes swings, a playhouse, climbing equipment, a large sand area, a water table, plenty of open space for safe, active play and much more. Daily activities encourage positive growth through a combination of teacher-initiated and child-initiated activity. The curriculum is based on a multi-disciplinary thematic approach to learning. Children learn through unstructured play as they create, construct, and grasp concepts and ideas at their own level while carefully nurturing the child’s natural delight in the process of discovery. We do a lot of playing, reading, singing, creating, sharing, and basic communication through active play with one another. Children sharpen their senses, perceive patterns and relationships, classify, compare and organize their worlds of the community who share their special talents with us. Hours: Morning: 8:30am to 11:30am Afternoon: 1:30pm to 4:30pm | | Program Outline: | |
1. Physical Development Children use their gross motor skills with confidence and activities are designed to strengthen this feeling through fun-oriented games. 2. Communication, oral and writing skills Having established a relationship of trust with the child, the teacher is able to gradually build a dialogue in French and English. They use oral skills that are developed during normal school activities. Graphic exercises are designed to build upon the child’s previous experience with various writing instruments, giving special attention to his/her writing posture. 3. Arts As they experiment with a large variety of mediums, materials, formats and instruments, children extend the range of their sensory experiences. This allows them to diversify their output and further develop their perceptive skills. 4. Music Through active participation, children learn to link movements, rhythm and melody. They also learn some simple songs in French and English. 5. Science The children’s interest is directed toward their environment; they investigate the five senses, body awareness, water, clothing, etc… Sensory games allow the children to experiment with fundamental mathematical concepts.
